![]() In 1999, I bought a 1988 Chevy Beretta CL 2.8 5-spd from a friend. My previous cars were Chevettes (2 of them). This was the first Beretta I ever owned. 5-spd was a must, the many cars that I owned in the past were mostly manual trans. This car was in pretty good shape for being 10 years old. The color is flat red, the car had been refinished and the gloss on the car was completely gone.. I guess if I would have waxed it, it might of helped it a little. Oh well! This car has been my daily driver ever since I got the car. I just started to buy more and more Berettas. But this was the car that started it all. Several years later, someone told me of a yellow Beretta in Ely, a small town south of here. Naturally, having never seen one, had to go check it out. Lori, my girlfriend at the time, went with me to see this car. She thought it was as as cool as I did .Something I never thought I’d hear her say was ”You need to buy this car” I guess I never realized in1990 the Beretta was a Pace Car. It was the first I’d ever seen, but further down the street was another. The Decals were different, but it was a Pace Car. As I became more and more interested in Berettas and the Pace Cars realized there were Pace Cars that were Teal green. The actual Pace Cars were convertibles (3) and the Production cars were actually GTs with the Indy options. 1500 Yellow and 6000 Teal. The GTU front spoiler, a new rear deck spoiler, rear bumper extensions and rocker sill ground effects, to give the car a lowered appearance. 16” Aluminum alloy wheels, mirrors of a different design, sunroof, digital dash and a 4-speed automatic transmission, although some came with a 5-speed, and are the hardest to find. The next was an 89 GT, Burgundy with a Burgundy interior , 2.8 5-speed.It needed the slave cylinder for the clutch, and a drivers door panel. |
